Dear colleagues/Friends,
My name is George Chan, DMD. I am a graduate of Washington University School of Dental medicine and for the past 25 years I have been practicing general dentistry in Honolulu, Hawaii. Before that I also practiced dentistry in St Louis, Missouri and in Hong Kong where I grew up. I love what I do and I think dentistry is the greatest profession.
Two years ago my local dental lab informed me that two of his ceramists had visa problem and had to leave. As a result he had to ship my cases to his mainland lab and the waiting time for lab work would be longer. I found out later he shipped my cases to a lab in China. I tried two other labs in California and discovered later that they also outsourced my work, this time to Costa Rica and Mexico. In other words, any dental lab work could be done by illegal aliens in the U.S. or outsourced to a foreign country without your knowledge. Now I have nothing against dental lab outsourcing as long as the quality is good and the price is reasonable. However, as a dentist at least I should be told by the labs so that I can make an informed and intelligent decision. The fact that many labs try to hide that they are outsourcing their work to other countries is morally and ethically wrong.
After I did some research, I found out that more than 30% of U.S. dental labs work has been outsourced and the rate is increasing. Some of the countries that dental lab work has been outsourced are China, Philippines, Thailand, Costa Rica, India, and Mexico etc.
Since I used to practice dentistry in Hong Kong and the labs I used there did good work for a reasonable fee, I have been sending most of my lab works to Hong Kong and has been receiving good service.
I have one problem: every time I send a package to Hong Kong, it cost me $80 by FedEx plus customs brokerage fee. To save shipping fee, I have been waiting one to two weeks before I sent a package, which made the turn around time longer and is very inefficient. So I thought to myself; why not include some of my colleague and group our cases together, so I can save money and time for everybody.
.
I set up The Dentists Dental Lab, LLC with a group of dentists to pool our resources and save money for us dentists without the middle man.
How do I save money and time for us by sending our lab cases together?
First, FedEx charges me the same whether I send one or 10 cases, we cut down our average shipping fee.
Second, since I did not set up a “brick and motor” dental lab in the traditional sense and I do not hire additional employee. I save rent, wages, FICA, TDI and health insurance etc. and I can pass the savings to you.
Third, by sending out cases every two days instead of every week, we save time. Our average turn around time is 10 working days.
Fourth, the color and fit of the lab cases are better than most of the lab in US that charge higher fee. Lots of time I do not need any adjustment so it save me time and time is money.
Fifth, we save you further by including two way shipping charge in our fee. There are no hidden charges.
For a complete list of our procedures and price, please check the Price List & Warranty section. Some examples of our fee: PFM-NP crown $49 and IPS e.max press crown $79. And as an incentive for you to try our lab, your first IPS e.max press crown or any other case with equal or lesser value is free. You can download and print out our shipping label and Rx forms so you can send us your case right away.
